Crammed A Lot Into One Day

  • May. 13th, 2007 at 10:28 PM
A quick summary: We called our moms first thing in the morning. My mom received the flowers I sent. The weather was perfect, if a bit breezy. I went for a bike ride, and J went for a run this morning. I headed east to Brookland where I explored the Catholic University of America's campus, and Trinity University. J headed south then west to Georgetown. We met up for lunch at Mayorga, then drove to the National Arboretum in the afternoon. Unfortunately, it was crowded because of a big azalea display and sale, but we did eventually find a parking space and walked to the Capitol Columns, koi pond and bonsai exhibits. Pictures from my bike ride and the arboretum on Flickr. On the way home, we took a little detour into Hyattsville, which appears to be gradually revitalizing, and back into DC on Rhode Island Avenue. We stopped at the Rita's Water Ice and got some ice cream before going home.
J whipped up a tasty dinner tonight, consisting of roasted asparagus from the farmer's market, drizzled with olive oil, wrapped in prosciutto slices, and served with mozzarella cheese slices. It was good! I opened a bottle of a red wine from the North Fork of Long Island for the occasion. When I was a kid, my mom used to buy that soggy asparagus-in-a-can that turned a generation of children off from the vegetable. As an adult, fresh asparagus is almost a delicacy, SO much better than the canned stuff. Unfortunately, there are no leftovers from dinner, but I might make a batch of guacamole tomorrow night.
