The DC government is working on a new pedestrian master plan for the city, and has rolled out an online survey accessible from the main website here. It only takes a short while to complete, I just did it in about 10 minutes. Some of the factors I mentioned could use some improvement (in the comments sections) were better lighting for safer nighttime walking, removal of security barriers that impede pedestrians in the monumental core, traffic failing to yield to peds in crosswalks, and confusing/annoying configurations at Washington Circle, 16th Street NW & Park Road, and other locations. I singled out the Washington Hospital Center, and the Brentwood Shopping Center (Home Depot) as being virtually impossible to walk to, and to avoid such suburban-style development patterns in the future.
